Dear
Helen Boaden
Steve Herrmann

Apropos the latest Media Lens alert:
http://www.medialens.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=680:good-rockets-bad-rockets-bbc-bias-on-india-and-north-korea&catid=25:alerts-2012&Itemid=69

From the meticulous evidence presented here, I wonder if you can, at least, concede that ML have strong and valid grounds for calling the BBC's respective reporting of India and N Korea grossly unbalanced? Might you also allow even the smallest concession that the BBC adopts a consciously different language when speaking of Israel and Iran?

Why, in plain viewer-speak, are the nuclear holdings of Western-favoured countries - notably those refusing to sign the NPT or even formally acknowledge their stocks - presented as "deterrence" while others - including a state with no actual nuclear capacity - are demonised and labelled a "threat"?

The net effect of such disparities encourages people to accept the 'benign' and 'peace-serving' purpose of what lurks at Faslane and Dimona while reinforcing the case for attacking the 'menacing other'.

Beyond the standard, institutional denials, I wonder if you ever pause to think more consciously about the dark implications of BBC establishment bias and how it helps promote fear, violence and the endless economy of warfare?

Kind regards
John Hilley
