Post Post subject: Resign? Media's Blair freshener (courtesy Bremner) Reply with quote

Letter-to-Ed sent to various national media outlets including a few 'pops':

Sir,
So yet again Britain's mainstream media moves into change-the-subject overdrive in order to rehabilitate Bush's Blair. Teflon Tony? More a case of a complicit centrist Opposition and media that's still chronically unwilling to attack the PM with anything permanently sticky.
Despite polls indicating that 51% of the public want Bush's Blair to resign, the words 'resign' and 'lies' and 'liar' are being quietly banished to that place where other near-taboo subjects like...proportional representation...are consigned. Yet again a fickle and spin-able public is expected to forgive and, more importantly, to forget and 'move on'.

But only when Blair himself apologizes and moves on will this country be willing and able to return to business-as-usual.

Meanwhile our compliant compromised media now seems as determined to ignore public anger and rally behind Blair as it was in the run-up to the Iraq war - not to mention in the run-up to the Brent East by-election. (Politicians and the media were clearly surprised by both the Iraq and Brent East "results" - the public was not.)

If nothing else, this demonstrates once more the urgent need to introduce proportional representation at Westminster - not least to wrest power away from the now wholly discredited, anti-democratic three-party-plus-media cosy cabal(e) and hand it back to a disenfranchised and disillusioned electorate.
